The Young People of Lewiston and Auburn (YPLAA) is planning a candidate’s meet and greet forum – Candid Candidates 2008 – on Wednesday, October 1 beginning at 5:00pm at Martindale Country Club, 527 Beech Hill Road in Auburn. The goal is to create an environment for young people to interact with candidates running for Androscoggin County State House and State Senate seats in a social setting, learning more about where they stand on issues that matter to YPLAAers. Light appetizers and cash bar will be available.

Candid Candidates 2008 is designed as an informal evening with tables available for candidates to display personal literature and other information. For attendees not yet registered to vote, registration cards will be available and collected for distribution to Androscoggin County voting districts. Each attendee will be informed of their House and Senate Districts so they know who to connect with during the evening.

Candidates will be sent a survey with YPLAA questions that fall into the following topics: Education, Environment, Business, and Housing. Candidates’ answers to the questions will be made available at the event as well as posted on www.YPLAA.com through the election season.

This is the first year YPLAA is working to involve it’s 400+ members in the election process. Candid Candidates 2008 is expected to be the first of many future forums designed to engage dialogue about issues affecting the young people’s community in Androscoggin County.
